Bollore Pininfarina Bluecar

blueindy Bollore Pininfarina Bluecar

(In this first section, the information discussed regards to Indianapolis's blueindy car-share system. For information on the stock model of the car, there is information integrated below, as well as a separate second section)

In the modern world, in urban cities, the thought of pollution and the dwindling of fossil fuels, as well as overcrowding, is beginning to become a serious reality. Some people believe driving an electric car alone will help protect the environment. While that won't hurt, that's not going to make a huge impact  on the world. However, in Indianapolis, a new car-sharing system is beginning to take place in the city. Now usually in Indianapolis, you imagine fast, loud race cars speeding around a track, but soon, the city will be filled with a massive fleet of electric cars. The company behind this carsharing system, blueindy, has planned for 500 Bollore Pininfarina Bluecars and 200 stations located all around Indianapolis.

Here's how it works. First, you must get an account - which is only available to residents in Indiana, and then you get your membership card. When you want to borrow a car, you can use the mobile app to reserve a car at any location, and that car will be waiting for you when you arrive at the location. After you confirm that you are the person that goes to the car you reserve, you drive off to go to whatever you want! The car can be returned to any bluindy car station location. Prices vary for different periods of time, and students, youth, and electric vehicle owners can get discounts on their memberships.

The cars and the service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So, if you want to go get something at 3am, then you can. Just reserve your car (well, at 3am you may not need to reserve it), go pick it up, and you're off! This system is growing with cars, as well as stations. Your membership cost covers insurance, parking, and car maintenance, which means if your Bluecar breaks down, that's at no cost to you. These environmentally friendly vehicles produce no carbon dioxide, no emissions, no noise, and no odor.

Membership plans differ between the length of time you're going to use blueindy for:

  • One-day plan
    • $0/day
    • $8/20 minutes, then $0.40/minute
  • One-week plan
    • $10/week
    • $7/20 minutes, then $0.35/minute
  • One-month plan
    • $20/month
    • $6/20 minutes, then $0.30/minute
  • One-year plan
    • $10/month
    • $4/20 minutes, then $0.20/minute
  • Youth and student yearly membership
    • $30/year
    • $3/20 minutes
  • EV owners yearly membership
    • $20/year
    • $2/hour
      • If you already own an electric vehicle and have an account with blueindy, you can charge your own personal vehicle at any of the charging stations.
With any of these memberships, there are many features available on every car, and also available 24/7. Some of these features include:
  • Maintenance - you don't have to pay anything for repairs or service
  • Insurance - if anything happens to the vehicle, it's covered
  • Assistance 24/7 - need help operating the blueindy Bluecar? no problem because you have assistance around the clock
  • GPS - never get lost with the integrated GPS system
  • Access your information online or on the mobile app - you can keep up with all of your information with two sources - on the website - www.blue-indy.com - or on their mobile app
  • Guaranteed parking space - there will always be a parking spot available for when you're done with your blueindy car
Of course, these are not all of the features available inside the car, but listed above are many of the best features.

Every blueindy car is packed with technology, and there is no shortage of features. The vehicles are completely electric; no gas, no fossil fuels. The Bluecars cars are known as a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). The recycled Lithium Metal Polymer batteries produce no emissions and are very beneficial to the environment. The range for the blueindy cars, as well as the Bollore Pininfarina Bluecars is about 150 miles on one charge. On the interior of the blueindy cars features an interface that shows information about the cars, including how much charge remains. With your card that you reserve the car with, can also remember your favorite radio stations, as well as other information. Plus, the car gives you a personalized welcome!

As far as safety goes, all cars feature airbags, power steering, and an alert that lets pedestrians know that there is a silent electric vehicle approaching. Also, the cars feature a child car seat anchor to make these cars even safer.

The vehicles can comfortably seat 4 passengers, but the vehicle must be driven by a person that has a valid US/international driver's license and is 18 years of age and older.  You can even park your car in a parking lot that isn't a blueindy parking lot, but fees still continue to build up while the car is sitting at the lot. The cars even have enough space to carry suitcases and different types of packages, and the rear seats fold down to accommodate more items. The top speed of the Bluecar is 65 miles per hour, and the ignition key is permanently attached to the right side of the steering column.

If you are visiting Indianapolis, you can also use blueindy. If you are arriving from the Indianapolis International Airport, there is a blueindy car share system located there. Just register, create your account, get your car (that is assigned to you), and you're off. From there, you use blueindy just like you would normally. You may also drive to the airport and leave your Bluecar there. The only downside is that there is a 6 dollar charge for any trip beginning or ending at the Indianapolis International Airport.

If you own a business, blueindy has a solution for that too: corporate memberships. There are seven different plans that blueindy offers for all different business types and sizes. After a cardholder or an official administrator has been dedicated, they can decide who can use the car share system. The network of stations make it a practical solution for businesses that need a transportation problem solved.

The blueindy Bluecars are definitely a viable solution for this fast-growing world that is always looking for new technologies.

Bollore Pininfarina Bluecar

The Bluecar is considered to be a small four-seat, four-door car electric car available in Europe designed by Pininfarina and built by Cecomp in Italy. The standard model has a top speed of 81 miles per hour. Production of the Bluecar began in 2011 and they are still in production today.

The vehicle began as the Bollore and BatScap Bluecar (2005), and as coach builder Pininfarina's concept car, originally called the B0, that was made in 2008. Today, the main difference between the two concept vehicles is the design: the final product has only three doors, and simplified changes to the roof, headlights, taillights, as well as the interior. Production models of the vehicle began in 2011 as the Bluecar, and the first 250 of them were registered as part of France's Autolib car sharing program. The vehicle became available to customers in 2012 by leasing, and sales began in 2013 with a price of about $21,000 (USD) and a battery fee of $87 (USD) per month.

The vehicle is considered a city car with an FF layout. It features 3 doors (two side doors and the trunk). The electric range is 160 miles per charge city, and 93 miles per charge highway. Sales in France at the end of May 2016 were at about 5,387 units.

The dimensions are as follows:
  • Wheelbase - 98.4 inches
  • Length - 129.9 inches
  • Width - 67.7 inches
  • Height - 63.4 inches
  • Weight - 2,359 pounds
The batteries are made in locations owned by Bollore in France, as well as in Canada. The batteries are designed in such a way that they are considered one of the safest batteries. However, in one unit back in 2013 caught fire and set the Bluecar next to it on fire. The case is still under investigation and no further information is known about the case.
